DOTX stands for Word template. It was created by Microsoft and first released in 2007. DOTX is the template version of DOCX: the same ZIP of XML files, but Word opens it as a fresh copy so the template stays unchanged. Unlike DOTM, it cannot hold macros.

Tips for converting DOTX files

- Accept or reject tracked changes and delete comments before converting, so they do not end up in the PDF.
- Remove any password first; encrypted documents cannot be opened for conversion.
