How Crop Image works

Add an image and it appears with a crop box. Drag inside the box to move it, drag a corner to resize it, or drag anywhere on the picture to draw a new box. The size of the area in pixels is shown as you go, and the arrow keys nudge the box one pixel at a time, or ten with Shift, for exact positioning.

The shape buttons lock the box to a common proportion: square for profile pictures and Instagram posts, 4:3 and 3:2 for prints and photo frames, 16:9 for video thumbnails and screens, 4:5 for tall Instagram posts and 9:16 for stories. Choosing a shape centres the largest box of that shape on the image.

Each image has its own crop box, so several images can be cropped differently in one go. Only the area inside the box is kept, at full resolution. JPG and WebP are saved at 92 percent quality and PNG stays lossless with its transparency; other formats are saved as PNG. The images never leave your device.

The cropped file keeps its name with -cropped added, and the pixel size shown above the image is exactly the size you get. Because cropping only removes pixels, it is the one edit that never softens a photo. Crop before resizing or compressing, so those steps work only on the part you keep.

When to use it

Crop images to remove distracting edges, to fit a profile picture or social media format, to cut a screenshot down to the part that matters, to straighten the composition of a photo, or to meet the exact dimensions an upload form asks for.

Choose the shape first, then move and resize the box; the shape stays locked while you adjust it. For exact pixel sizes, crop to the right shape here and then use Resize Image.

About these image tools

The image tools run entirely in your browser. Rotating, flipping and cropping draw the picture on a canvas, the same drawing surface web pages use for graphics, and save the result with your browser's own image encoder, so no extra code has to download and each image takes a moment. The EXIF viewer loads exifr, a small open-source metadata reader, the first time it is used. The metadata remover works on the file's structure directly, removing the metadata sections without touching the compressed picture. Nothing is uploaded, and every tool handles several images at once, each with its own download button.

"The crop area is empty"

Drag on the image to draw a crop box before pressing Crop.

The box will not go past the edge

The crop area cannot extend beyond the image. Move it inwards or make it smaller.

"could not be read as an image"

HEIC photos need converting to JPG first.

How to use Crop Image, step by step

1. Press "Choose images" or drag files onto the box.
2. Set the options if you need to; the defaults suit most uses.
3. Press "Crop". The work happens on your device.
4. Save the result with its download button.

Is it safe to do this online?

With most online tools, "online" means your file is uploaded to a company's server, processed there and kept for a while before it is deleted. Here it is not. The page downloads the tool's code to your browser, and your file is read and processed inside the tab on your own device. It is never sent to TapToConvert or anyone else.

You can check this yourself: once the page and its engine have loaded, turn off Wi-Fi and the tool still works. That also means there is no queue, no daily limit and no file size cap set by a server; the only limit is the memory your browser gives a single tab.
