On Windows

On a Mac

On iPhone and iPad

Best settings for GIF to FLV

Short animations are small, so the defaults suit almost every GIF. Resolution only shrinks: a 480 pixel wide GIF stays 480 pixels wide at Keep original, and choosing 1080p does not enlarge it.

Quality decides how much detail the encoder keeps. Standard is fine for sharing; choose High for pixel art or text, where compression blur is easy to see. Either way the FLV is usually a small fraction of the size of the GIF, because video codecs store only what changes between frames.

• The conversion is slow. Audio and container changes take seconds, but re-encoding video runs on your own processor. Lower the resolution to 720p, close other tabs, and keep the device plugged in.
• The tab stops or reloads on a very large file. Browsers limit how much memory one tab can use, around 2 GB and less on phones. Split long recordings or convert them on a computer.
• The FLV will not play on an old device. Try the other formats offered for GIF, or choose 720p, which older players handle more reliably.
