What happens when you convert PS to SVG

• The PS is first turned into a PDF by Ghostscript, the PostScript interpreter, and Inkscape, the open-source vector editor, opens that on our conversion server and saved as a plain SVG, without Inkscape's own editing data, so it opens cleanly in browsers and other editors.
• Shapes, lines, fills and colours stay vectors, so the result scales to any size. Embedded pictures are carried over as pictures.
• Text stays text where the original stores it as text, so it can still be edited and searched.
• Only the first page is converted, because SVG holds a single drawing.
• This conversion runs on our server: the file is uploaded, converted, and deleted together with the result as soon as the result has been sent back to you. Nothing is kept. Files up to 25 MB are accepted.

How to convert PS to SVG on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android

On Windows

Open this page in Chrome, Edge or Firefox, drag your PS files in from File Explorer, and press Convert. Each SVG is saved to your Downloads folder.

On a Mac

Safari, Chrome and Firefox all work. Drag the PS files from Finder onto the drop zone and the SVG files land in Downloads.

On iPhone and iPad

Open the page in Safari and tap Choose PS files. You can pick from Photos or from the Files app. The converted SVG appears in Files, in the Downloads folder; to put it in your photo library, open it there, tap Share and choose Save Image.

On Android

Open the page in Chrome, tap Choose PS files and pick them from Files or your gallery. The SVG is saved to the Download folder, where any file manager can find it.

What is a PS file?

PostScript is a programming language for describing pages, made by Adobe for laser printers. A .ps file is a program that a printer or Ghostscript runs to draw each page, which is why converting it to PDF is the usual way to view or share it.

What is an SVG file?

SVG describes shapes as text instructions, so it stays sharp at any size and a simple logo can be under 5 KB. Turning it into pixels fixes it at one resolution, so choose the output size before converting.

PS to SVG not working? Common problems

• "Files up to 25 MB can be converted." Server conversions have a size limit. Compress the images inside the file, or split it, and try again.
• "The conversion took too long and was stopped." Very long or complex files can pass the 90 second limit. Split the file and convert the parts.
• The PS will not convert. It may be damaged, or try to do something the converter blocks for safety, such as reading other files.

Convert PS to SVG from the command line
