How Rotate PDF works

Rotating a PDF here changes the rotation stored with each page, the same setting a PDF editor changes, so the result opens the right way up in every viewer, on every device, and prints correctly. It is not just a viewing preference that resets next time.

Every page is rotated by the angle you choose, added to any rotation it already had. Nothing is re-rendered, so text stays selectable and scans keep their full resolution. The change is made by pdf-lib running in this tab; the file never leaves your device.

Scanned documents are the usual reason: a scanner or phone app saved some pages sideways or upside down. Choose 90 degrees clockwise for pages that lean left, 90 degrees anticlockwise for pages that lean right, and 180 for upside-down pages.

The rotated file keeps its name with -rotated added, so the original is never overwritten. Rotation is stored as a whole number of quarter turns, which every PDF reader understands, so it works for scanned pages, forms, drawings and slides alike. Because the page content is untouched, a rotated scan has exactly the same resolution and file size as before, and any text layer from OCR still lines up with the words. Several PDFs can be rotated in one go: add them all, choose the angle once, and each gets its own download button.

When to use it

Rotate a PDF when a scan came out sideways, when a landscape table is hard to read on a phone, or before sending a document to someone who will print it.

If only some pages need turning, split the PDF first, rotate the pages that need it, then merge the files back together with the Merge PDF tool.

About these PDF tools

The page tools, from merge and split to crop, resize, watermark and page numbers, use pdf-lib, an open-source JavaScript library that reads the structure of a PDF and writes a new one. Because it works on the page objects themselves rather than on pictures of them, text stays text, fonts stay embedded and vector drawings stay sharp, and nothing is added to your pages that you did not ask for. None of these tools edit what is already printed on a page: to change wording or fill a form, use a PDF editor. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first, since the pages cannot be read without the password. Every tool works on a copy, so the file on your device is never changed.

Pages turned the wrong way

Run the rotated file through again with 180 degrees, or start from the original with the other 90 degree option.

Only some pages were sideways

Every page turns by the same amount. Split out the sideways pages, rotate them, and merge the parts back in order.

The PDF will not open

It is password protected. Remove the password in your PDF reader and save a copy first.

2. Set the options if you need to; the defaults suit most uses.
3. Press "Rotate PDF". The work happens on your device.
4. Save the result with its download button.

Is it safe to do this online?

With most online tools, "online" means your file is uploaded to a company's server, processed there and kept for a while before it is deleted. Here it is not. The page downloads the tool's code to your browser, and your file is read and processed inside the tab on your own device. It is never sent to TapToConvert or anyone else.

You can check this yourself: once the page and its engine have loaded, turn off Wi-Fi and the tool still works. That also means there is no queue, no daily limit and no file size cap set by a server; the only limit is the memory your browser gives a single tab.
