What happens when you convert EPS to PNG
- The EPS is rendered by Ghostscript, the standard open-source PostScript interpreter, on our conversion server at 300 dpi, cropped to the artwork's bounding box. Very large artwork is rendered at a lower resolution so the longest side stays within 6,000 pixels.
- The PNG has a transparent background wherever the artwork draws nothing, which is usually what you want for a logo.
- At 300 dpi, artwork 10 cm wide becomes about 1,180 pixels wide: enough for print at that size, or to scale down for screens.
- PostScript is a programming language, so Ghostscript runs it in its safe mode, where the file cannot read or write anything else on the server.

How to convert EPS to PNG on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android
On Windows

Best settings for EPS to PNG
There are no settings: the artwork is rendered at 300 dpi, cropped to its bounding box, which suits print at the EPS's own size and gives plenty of pixels to scale down for screens. Poster-sized artwork is rendered at a lower resolution so the image stays within 6,000 pixels on its longest side.
PNG keeps a transparent background where nothing is drawn. Choose JPG only when a program insists on it, because JPG has no transparency.

What is an EPS file?
An EPS is a small PostScript program that draws one page of artwork, with a bounding box so it can be placed inside other documents. Printers and designers still ask for it, but it is gradually being replaced by PDF and SVG.
What is a PNG file?
PNG compresses without losing a single pixel, so screenshots and text stay razor sharp, but a photograph saved as PNG is often three to five times the size of the same photo as JPG.
EPS to PNG not working? Common problems
- "Files up to 25 MB can be converted." Server conversions have a size limit. Compress the images in the document, or split it, and try again.
- "The conversion took too long and was stopped." Very long or complex documents can exceed the time limit. Split the document and convert the parts.
- The EPS will not convert. It may be damaged, or use features the converter does not allow for safety, such as reading other files.
